they don’t tell you
that
there’s real terror
as well as joy
in being fully present–
something so
simple
and painful
as the outline
of a flame,
or its seemingly
solid
yellow-gold
presence–
something so
deeply complex
as existence
in someone else’s
breath
or
to suffer,
wide awake,
as some part
of you
(even if it is not your Self)
drowns.
